Seven candidates running for ASOIF Council positions at upcoming General Assembly

The General Assembly of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) will vote to elect four Council members during its upcoming annual meeting, to be held in a hybrid format on 11 June 2025 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

A total of seven candidates were nominated by their respective International Federation (IF) to run for election for three positions on the Council for the period 2025-2029 and one position for the period 2025-2027.

Two positions in the Council will become vacant as Uğur Erdener (World Archery) and Sebastian Coe (World Athletics) will conclude their respective two full terms. Nenad Lalovic’s (United World Wrestling) first full term is ending and he is standing for re-election. Because Ingmar De Vos has started his Presidential term on 1 January 2025, one of the four available positions will be filling his vacated Council seat and serving the remainder of his unexpired term (2025-2027).

The full list of the seven candidates listed in alphabetical order of their surnames:

  • Mohammed Jalood, President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF)
  • Thomas Konietzko, President of the International Canoe Federation (ICF)
  • Nenad Lalovic, President of United World Wrestling (UWW)
  • Ximena Restrepo, Senior Vice President of World Athletics
  • Jean-Christophe Rolland, President of World Rowing
  • Marco Maria Scolaris, President of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC)
  • Andreas Zagklis, Secretary General of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA)

The ASOIF Council is composed of eight individual members – all leaders of Summer Olympic IFs, and the ASOIF Executive Director (without voting rights). The President and the other Council members are elected for four-year mandates by the General Assembly. Click here to learn more about the Council and its current composition.
