Next edition of the highly successful FIVB Volleyball Empowerment is now open
The new 2023-2024 Volleyball Empowerment cycle is officially open with all 222 National Federations (NFs) able to apply for application-based development support while also completing the Volleyball Empowerment survey to be considered for targeted national team support.
Each edition of the revolutionary Volleyball Empowerment Programme comes with new exciting additions. This edition is no exception and will allow for the NFs to submit their applications and fill in the surveys not only in English, but also in French and Spanish.
Additionally, as during the previous cycle, the NFs can apply for more than one project during a year. This will allow the NFs with good projects to select various types of support and make sure they get the maximum benefit from Volleyball Empowerment. The applications can be submitted via the following link.
Launched in February 2021 by FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F°, Volleyball Empowerment forms part of the President’s Nucleus Plan. The overall goal of the programme is to empower and improve the level of national teams and athletes, providing them with the skills to play at the highest level.
Volleyball Empowerment consists of two key areas of support: targeted support and application-based development support. In order to be considered for the targeted national team support programme or apply for application-based development support, each NF is required to complete a dedicated survey in which they share the organisation’s structure, vision and goals.
As part of the application-based development support, three types of programmes are available: coach support for the development of national teams, volleyball equipment, and knowledge transfer projects. While there are four application windows for coach support and knowledge transfer programmes, there is one application window for volleyball equipment support that corresponds with the production timeframe of our equipment partners.
Talking about the launch of the 2023-2024 cycle of Volleyball Empowerment the FIVB President said:
“I am extremely proud to see my vision becoming a reality as we start a new cycle of the highly-successful Volleyball Empowerment Programme. Volleyball Empowerment gives our National Federations from all over the world a unique opportunity to realise their full potential and maximise the chances of their national teams competing at the highest levels and reaching the medal podium.
“We are constantly sharing with all our National Federations the successes of their colleagues in other countries on how they used Volleyball Empowerment to achieve great results. We believe that the support available 365 days a year and the success stories will further encourage all our National Federations to create strong projects and apply for support.
“The FIVB also welcomes other volleyball and sport stakeholders and supporters, such as National Olympic Committees, Ministries of Sport, NGOs and others, to join forces and get involved to ensure the further success of Volleyball Empowerment.”
Since 2017, the FIVB has approved the total of 695 projects from National Federations across all five Continental Confederations. This support totals an investment of more than 20 million USD (18 million CHF). These 695 projects include 285 coach support programmes in 134 countries, 353 volleyball equipment programmes in 132 countries and 67 knowledge transfer programmes in 43 countries.
During the first, second and third application windows for the 2022-2023 Volleyball Empowerment cycle, the FIVB approved 174 out of 199 projects: 154 application-based development projects and 20 targeted support projects – with a total investment of almost 7 million USD (6 million CHF). Application-based development projects included 51 coach support programmes, 73 volleyball equipment programmes and 30 knowledge transfer projects.
The fourth application window is still ongoing for the 2022-2023 Volleyball Empowerment with the received applications currently being analysed.
