Ingmar De Vos takes the helm at ASOIF as new President
The new President of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) Ingmar De Vos, elected at the 48th ASOIF General Assembly in April 2024, officially started his four-year mandate on 1 January 2025, taking over from Francesco Ricci Bitti.
Ingmar De Vos said on this occasion: “I am deeply honoured to serve in this capacity for the next four years. Our International Federations (IFs) form the bedrock of the Olympic Movement, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognises our pivotal role. Maintaining and strengthening the open and constructive dialogue that has been cultivated in recent years will remain a key priority.”
Ingmar De Vos has served as President of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) since 2014 and as ASOIF Council member since 2019. An IOC Member since 2017, he is currently part of the IOC Coordination Commission for Los Angeles 2028 (LA28), the Legal Affairs Commission, and the Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Commission. He is also a SportAccord Executive Committee member, ASOIF representative on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Executive Committee, member of the Board of Directors of the Belgium Olympic Committee, and a United Nations International Gender Champion.

Recognising the achievements of his predecessor, he added: “I would like to take a moment to pay tribute to Francesco Ricci Bitti. During his 12-year presidency, Francesco’s wisdom and leadership have driven significant progress, particularly in governance. He has been instrumental in fostering collaboration and cohesion among our member IFs, notably through the establishment and development of ASOIF’s Consultative Groups. His contributions have left a lasting legacy, and we are profoundly grateful for his service.”
Ingmar De Vos takes the helm of ASOIF during a time of change across the Olympic Movement. The closing months of 2024 saw numerous elections within the IFs and in March, the IOC Session is set to elect the next IOC President.
At the beginning of this New Year, ASOIF also welcomes four new Associate Members: the International Cricket Council (ICC), the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), World Lacrosse and World Squash which join ASOIF for the LA28 Olympic cycle.
ASOIF’s focus will now shift to the preparations for Dakar 2026, LA28 and, further ahead, Brisbane 2032. Representation will also remain a key priority under Ingmar De Vos, including ASOIF’s roles on WADA, Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), SportAccord and various IOC Commissions. Additionally, ASOIF’s Governance Task Force and Consultative Groups will continue to provide platforms for addressing shared challenges and opportunities.
Ingmar De Vos will chair the ASOIF Council meeting for the first time on 22 January and the 49th General Assembly which will be held during the SportAccord Convention 2025.
